Frequently Asked Questions FAQ
  1. Dear Postmaster, I use my browser to access my e-mails from ETC Mail Server (http://mail.telecom.net.et/). I have the following questions to you.
  1. I get difficulties when I delete mails from my mailbox. Is there a short method for this?
  2. How can I create a folder named Outbox in my mailbox to store all my outgoing e-mails?
  3. How can I create a Trash folder to store all my deleted mails?
Postmaster

a) I recommend you to use the default method. i.e. First select the mails you
want to be deleted just by clicking on the check box in front of each mail
on each row just like below.

Then Click at Set deleted button found on the bottom of the Inbox page.

And finally click at the Purge Deleted button to delete those mails whose
status is marked with ("
X").

If you don't want the default method, you can change your settings to
make the deleted method Automatically. Just open Settings menu and
then choose "Immediately" from the message deleted method list box of
the Miscellaneous section. And the click at Update button.

Then you will never see the Purge Deleted button on the mailbox.

b) Unlike Eudora and Outlook Express, by default there is only Inbox folder
in your mailbox. But you can create as many folders as you want just like
creating a folder in Windows. For example, if you want to create a folder
named Outbox to store all your outgoing mails, please follow these steps:
Type the name of the folder eg. Outbox, on the Create Mailbox text box
and create and then click at the Create Mailbox button.

Then Outbox folder is created automatically. To make this folder to
store all outgoing messages automatically, go to Settings menu and then
choose Outbox from the Sent Messages list box and click at Update
button.

c) To create the Trash folder, just follow the same steps we did to create the
Outbox folder. And then go to Settings menu and choose Move to Trash
from the Message Deleted Method on the Miscellaneous section of the
Settings menu. And then click at Update button to save your changes.

  1. Dear Postmaster, I got my mailbox full of spam (unwanted mails). Is it possible to block these spam? If yes, how can I protect my mailbox accepting spam?
Postmaster
The Internet is flooded with soliciting E-mail messages distributed to millions of E-mail addresses. These messages are known as "spam".

Spammers fill your user mailboxes with a huge amount of unwanted messages, not only overloading the Internet and your Server resources, but making mail retrieval very slow and difficult for your users.

Below is a sample done to protect your mailbox from Spam (unwanted mails). Here are the steps to create a rule:

1. Click at the Rules Menu

2. Type a name for your Rule, eg. Spams. And then click at Add Rule
Button.

3. Then click at Edit link to edit your Rule named given at Step 2 above

4. Select your option from the Data list box, eg. From
Select the type of your operation, eg. is
Type the Parameter, eg. the e-mail address you don't want to accept.
eg. I don't want to accept mails from haha@yahoo.com
Select the type of Action to be taken for the e-mail address you gave
above. eg. I chose Discard just to discard it.

N.B. Finally, don't forget to click at Update button to save your rule.

  1. Dear Postmaster, how can I change my e-mail password?
Postmaster
Changing your passwords regularly makes you feel safe.
To change your e-mail pasword follow the following Steps:
  1. Get connected to the Internet
  2. Open http://mail.telecom.net.et/ on your browser
  3. Type your username and e-mail password on text box provided
  4. Click at Settings menu
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page.
  6. Be ready that you have prepared a new password on your mind before you type your new password on the box below.
  7. Type the old password first on the first text box provided, and then type your new password twice on the other two text boxes.
  8. Finally, click at the Modify button and then you will see the text Updated.
N.B. You can leave empty the "E-mail Password to:" box if you think that it is not important to you . But I recommend you to put the second e-mail address if you have two. This is very important to get your password back through e-mail when you forget it.

  1. Dear Postmaster, I got a message "Account is over Quota" when I tried to open my mailbox. What does this mean?
Postmaster
Your hard disk space quota on the mail server is 10 MB. It is quite huge amount if you use it wisely. Webmail users get the alert message "Account is over Quota" like below when their Mailbox is full.

Please click at Confirm button and then try to free spaces from your Mailbox by deleting some of the mails. For deleting mails please refer to FAQ question #1.

N.B. For Eudora or Outlook users it may be sometimes good to leave your mails on the mail server. But if you don't follow up how much free space is available in your mailbox, it has its own disadvantage in making your mailbox full.

For Eudora users, one thing that you can do to avoid leaving your mails on the mail server is, go to Options menu and then choose Incoming Mail from the Category and then make sure that Leave on Mail Server box is not selected.
